This creative fold was from the Suestampfield Crafternoon Creative Escape in February. These gorgeous freestanding cards spread out for display and accordion fold up to slide in an envelope.
Are you looking for new and unique fun fold card ideas? Meet the Flying Seagull Fun Fold Cards! When the card is pulled out of the envelope, it looks like this – pretty!
And then, it pulls out and expands to be put on display! Stunning! What a happy surprise for the lucky person that you send this card to. I have six versions of this style of card to share with you today. This first version is using a sneak peek of some brand new products that will be available to order March 1st! The Hello Irresistible Designer Series Paper, the Irresistible Blooms bundle, and the Loose Frosted Dots are all a part of the Hello Irresistible Suite that will be available on March 1st. Or if you purchase the Starter Kit, you can order the in the kit now. The beautiful embossing folder is one of three embossing folders in the Basics 3D Embossing Folders packet – which is also available on March 1st!
Let’s take a closer look!
In this top down photo you can really see how the center pops out, and the back panels spread out so that the card can stand. The side “wings” accordion fold up so that the card easily slides into a standard A2 size envelope.
I created this new, unique fun fold design for the Suestampfield February Crafternoon Creative Escape. Each month I design a fun fold and then create multiple designs using that fold. The featured fun fold for February is the Flying Seagull Fun Fold. I have a step by step video for you at the bottom of this post on how to assemble this style of fun fold card. I also have an option to purchase a step-by-step tutorial for the basics of this fun fold design and directions on how to make ALL of the projects shown in this blog post. The NEW tutorial design is more streamlined than past Crafternoon projects. It is easy to follow, has all the measurements and directions for all the cards. Plus it is shorter to print out and it is one single document instead of several different documents!
The Crafternoon Make-N-Take project!
This next design features the beautiful Dainty Flowers Designer Series Paper and was the make-n-take project for my virtual monthly Crafternoon event. Customers who placed a $50 order (before tax and shipping) in January, received the packet to make one of these beautiful Flying Seagull cards in February. You can join me for next month’s Crafternoon if you place a qualifying order this month!
Why do I call them Flying Seagull fun fold cards? In this photo you can see why – right? Doesn’t it look like a bird in flight?! This card features the beautiful FREE Sale-a-bration Designer Series Paper called Dainty Flowers. All Sale-a-bration items are only available while supplies last, and this paper has now sold out. The greeting is from the Something Fancy bundle – one of my most used bundles from the Mini Catalog!
In the Flying Seagull Fun Fold Card tutorial I give instructions in how to cut the large floral design so that you can make six cards! The first photo above shows the three designs and you could cut your paper so that you could make two of each design. The other panels are cut from other designs in the pack. The second photo shows where to sign the card.
Another beautiful floral design!
The Fancy Flora Designer Series Paper, the Two-Tone Flora bundle, and the Fine Shimmer Paper makes for a beautiful card! I embossed the Fine Shimmer Paper with the Cane Weave 3D Embossing folder.
What a gorgeous card to display! In the tutorial bundle, I also have photos of a version where I did not emboss the Fine Shimmer paper on the outside panels – both versions are lovely. One thing that I love about the Flying Seagull Fun Fold Cards – the design is so easy to make and versatile. You can decorate it with ANY of your lovely paper craft supplies.
Heartfelt Sympathy with the beautiful By The Bay Designer Series Paper.
The By The Bay Designer Series Paper is perfect for these Flying Seagull Fun Fold cards. In fact, I had to make two with this paper. Because it is just SO lovely.
The sympathy card is elegant and soothing with the gold accents paired with the Sahara Sand ink. Seashells are often used with sympathy cards because they are a token of remembrance. Shells also are a reminder that those who pass never truly go away, but still live on in our hearts.
Of course the By The Bay paper makes a perfect birthday card as well. The sentiment is from the Shaded Summer stamp set and is die cut with the Stitched Rectangle Dies. In the Flying Seagull Fun Fold Cards tutorial I have a photo of the patterns that I used to die cut the shells for both cards. The shell die is part of the Seaside Bay bundle. The Seaside Bay dies are currently out of stock, but will be back again at the end of March.
So peaceful and calming! In the photo below, you can see that I added a layer behind the center pop out piece of the card. This layer is where I will sign the card and write a message. I added the stamped image of the shell from the Seaside Bay stamp set to make it extra special.
Make a statement with this stunning graduation card!
The Enjoy The Journey Designer Series Paper and the Greatest Journey bundle make striking cards. In the Flying Seagull Fun Fold Cards tutorial I have the full directions for this graduation card. When it is open…
It becomes a stunning display at the graduation party! The greeting on the front is die cut with the Stylish Shapes dies. Again, I used a panel behind the center panel to add my graduation sentiment. I used the Sentimental Park stamp set for the inside message.

Theses are absolutely wonderful. Delightful mail to those who would receive one of these.
Thank you for all your hard work and for sharing with us!
Love this simple fold! But… are the measurements you give in video correct? Shouldn’t the two pieces for card base be 7 3/4 instead of 8 1/4? It didn’t fit in envelope and had to cut 1/2” off each side. Also, DSP measurements didn’t leave an even frame around them. Help, not sure what went wrong!
Pam following Susan’s video my finished card measured 5 1/2 x 41/4. Fits in an envelope. Not sure but you not have the 2 inch flaps on the outer parts of the card. You might want to rewatch video. Hope this helps.
Hi Pam! I’m so sorry that you are having difficulty with the fold. the measurements in the video are correct. It sounds like one or both of your pieces might have been turned around. When assembling the card, make sure the 2-1/4″ section (wider section) is on outside of the left piece and on the outside of the right piece. I hope that helps!
Fun and beautiful cards, Sue. Such a versatile fun fold and relatively easy to make. Thanks for the inspiration!
Thank your kind words! Happy creating Carol!
Watched your video…and made a card. Thank you for sharing!

You are so talented and generous to share your great ideas with all of us! So thankful for you! I plan to use this amazing fun-fold to make my Mom a special birthday card for her 87th birthday, and I’ll be sharing it with my team, too! Hope to see you again this year at BackStage! So happy to have been able to meet you, thanks to Missy! 🙂
Susan, I love watching your videos. I definitely gave the WV card a try and really like it. In fact, I used some New Horizon dsp and made a b’day card for my brother using that fold. These cards with the Hello Irresistable dsp are gorgeous!
