New Fold! Meet the Pretty Pleats Card Design – Six Ways!

These fun freestanding cards have a fun pop out surprise on the inside and are easy to make. I created the Pretty Pleats Card design for the November Suestampfield Crafternoon Creative Escape.

The inside of the Pretty Pleats Card style is definitely a WOW – so we are starting with a photo of the inside of the card! The card stands for display, and oh, what a display it is! The sentiment and the butterfly are adhered to the inside pleats so they pop out when the card opens. Of course, when the card is closed and flat it fits in a standard Stampin’ Up! medium envelope for mailing. This lovely version of the Pretty Pleats Card is made with 12″ wide Designer Series Paper from a new suite, Perennial Lavender, that is coming out in the January 2024 Mini Catalog. Let’s learn more about this new Pretty Pleats fun fold card style!

When the card is closed, it is lovely, and it completely hides the pop out pleat surprise inside! I have a six versions to share of this fun fold card with you, a video tutorial, and a purchasable PDF tutorial with step-by-step photos and instructions on how to make all six cards. I will be showing you cards made with both 12″ wide Designer Series paper, like the card above, and some versions made with 6″ wide Designer Series paper.

From the top down – you can see the Pretty Pleats peeking out!

This pretty version of the Pretty Pleats card was the make and take for this month’s Crafternoon virtual class. Customers who placed an product order of $50 in my Stampin’ Up! online store before tax and shipping in October received the packet in November to make this card along with me in the video. The perfect card to make and send to spread kindness and joy for the holidays. The front of the card is embossed with the Snowflake Sky 3D Embossing Folder and features the Forever Forest dies.

And once again, the inside is an absolute WOW with the stunning Winter Meadow Designer Series Paper inside. The Pretty Pleats Card design is a great way to use and show off your pretty papers.

Packet recipients received either the pattern shown above or the pattern shown below – both are equally gorgeous!

Some of the other patterns from the Winter Meadow Designer Series Paper would also look lovely on this Pretty Pleats Card design – I chose these two because they both have Misty Moonlight in the pattern and matched the tree on the front. The sentiments on this card are from the Christmas Classic stamp set and the label dies are from the Nested Essential dies.

This next Pretty Pleats Card was created with the Christmas Classics bundle and the Joy of Noel bundle.

The delicate pine boughs on the front are die cut from the Joy of Noel dies and the Distressed Tile 3D Embossing Folder adds the texture on this Crumb Cake card. The Cherry Cobbler label and saying are from the Christmas Classics bundle and is embossed in gold embossing powder. The Neutral Sequins add a bit more shine. The Joy of Noel and Christmas Classics stamps and dies are retiring – you can see all the retiring items HERE. (And some of the retiring items are on sale!).

The inside of the card has those pretty pleats made from the A Walk In The Forest Designer Series Paper. The greetings attached to the pleats are from the Joy of Noel bundle.

The Christmas Classic dies are retiring, and are just one of many things on sale right now! Download a printable list of the retiring sale items HERE.

In the “top down” view below you can see how the pleats pop out from the center of the card.

Ready for some more Pretty Pleat Card designs? How about we change it up a bit for 6″ wide paper??

This absolutely stunning Meandering Meadow Designer Series Paper is a work of art! On this card, it pairs beautifully with the Garden Meadow bundle. What a perfect card to make and send to anyone who loves nature and outdoors.

When using the 6″ wide Designer Series Paper on the Pretty Pleats Card design, we go from three pleats down to one pleat and add two “end caps” inside the card. These pieces are critical because they help you know where to adhere the edges of the Designer Series Paper so that the pleat works properly. All of the details are in the tutorial. The left “end cap” is embossed with the Exposed Brick 3D Embossing folder and the right “end cap” is smooth so that you can write your message.

Above you can see a better view of the single pleat that pops out when the card is opened.

So….if we can make the Pretty Pleats Card design with 6″ wide paper, can we use 12″ wide paper cut down to 6″ so that we can make double the amount of cards?

Of course we can! For this version I used another pattern of the new Perennial Lavender Designer Series Paper (available for customers to purchase on January 4th). But by making it only 6″ wide, I could make 6 of these cards out of a sheet. When I make the 12″ wide version, I can get 3 cards out of a sheet of Designer Series Paper. All the instructions are in the step-by-step tutorial.

The pretty Paper Butterfly Accents are die cut butterflies that come in a pack, ready to adhere. The sentiment and label die are from the Pretty Postage bundle. These products are all coming in the January – April Mini Catalog! The front of the card is the almost the same as the 12″ wide version I shared at the top of this post. The only difference is I moved the “Big Hugs” label to a different spot to avoid covering up a pretty butterfly! The Purple Fine Shimmer Gems are also apart of this Perennial Lavender Suite.

The Pretty Pleats Card design is kind of addictive to make, so I hope you don’t mind seeing one more version!

Another sneak peek of new products coming in January 2024! This sweet bird is punched out of a new paper called Flight & Airy which will be one of the free Sale-a-bration choices in January with a $50 order (in the US). The bird was punched out with the Heartfelt Hexagon punch and the branches are from the Bough punch. The gorgeous embossing folder will also be available in January, it is called the Layered Floral 3D Embossing Folder and it is gorgeous!

As you can see, this version is another 12″ wide style but it could easily be adapted to the 6″ wide style. All of the dimensions and instructions for both the 12″ wide and the 6″ wide styles are in the step-by-step tutorial, so you can adapt whichever best suits your project. The inside greetings were created with the Heartfelt Hexagon bundle – I love these sweet sentiments!

One more look at the front of this card – so pretty!
