This new fun fold has a hidden surprise inside! Six versions of the Flip Flap Window Card in this post.
I love creating new fun fold cards, I’m excited to share 2 different shape options of this fun fold with you! This first Flip Flap Window card is actually a set of two cards. I used one 6″ x 6″ pattern of the Thoughtful Journey Designer Series Paper, cut it in half, and paired it with the Frozen Edges dies for the front of the flip flap on each card. Just pull the flap, flip it open, and you reveal the hidden window that peeks into the interior of the card. In this blog post I have 6 different designs of the Flip Flap Window Fun Fold card, a video tutorial, and a purchasable PDF tutorial with step-by-step photos and instructions on how to make all the versions.
Are you ready to peek inside?
The “latch” that is holding the card closed for this version is the triangle in the upper right corner. Of course we decorate the back of the flip flap cover (in this version with the Snowflake Sky 3D Embossing Folder and the Christmas Labels bundle) and then see the window that shows the interior of the card.
When you fully open the card, you can look back through the window and see the framed image that is on the inside cover of the flip flap – fun! For the interior of the card I used another pattern from the Thoughtful Journey Designer Series Paper and another greeting and die label from the Christmas Labels bundle.
Now you could certainly make both of the cards Christmas themed OR you can make the 2nd one a “winter birthday” theme. I used the same Snowflake Sky 3D Embossing Folder, the “Wishing you a cozy day” sentiment is from the Frozen Edges stamp set, and the “Happy Birthday” image is from the Unbounded Love stamp set. The Deckled Rectangle dies were used to make the window and for the two labels inside the card.
The detail on these Frozen Edges dies is just breathtaking! The die is 6″ long, so I cut one die from Basic White and then cut it in half to make the two cards. All the details are in the step-by-step tutorial! The finished size of the card when closed is 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ and it fits in an A2 envelope.
Now let’s take a look at a square Flip Flap Window card!
So CUTE!! This Reindeer Fun bundle is just that, FUN! This is one of the three SQUARE flip flap window cards that I created for the Crafternoon tutorial. The holly leaves not only decorate the front but are also the closure for the card – double duty! You can use any die cut element as the card closure, just make sure that it overlaps the front of the flip flap piece slightly. The dies from the Reindeer Fun bundle create the cutest reindeer. They also cut out some of the images from the Reindeer Days Designer Series Paper. The Forever Plaid embossing folder makes the front of the card extra cute – this embossing folder is temporarily out of stock, and for the US market is expected back the week of October 7th.
When you pop open the front of the square flip flap, you reveal a round window inside that peeks into the inside of the card. The Reindeer Days Designer Series Paper made decorating the inside of the card a breeze – I just punched out the interior pieces with circle punches. And once again, as you can see below, the window frames a cute image from the inside of the card as well.
This super special Reindeer Fun Flip Flap Window card was the make and take project for my Stampfield Stars direct team members for our September virtual and in person gathering. We had so much fun making this card together!
How about another rectangle Flip Flap Window card that’s perfect for those upcoming birthday cards?
I find blue and white a particularly stunning combination, so was so excited to design this card with the Regal Flora bundle and the Regal Winter Designer Series Paper. Perfect for birthdays year round! This card is quite simple to make, which is even better! I used the Blueberry Bushel ink pad and stamped the pretty flowers and leaves from Regal Flora and then die cut them with the matching dies. The embossing folder is the Distressed Tile, one of my favorites!
For the inside cover of the flip flap and the inside of the card, the Regal Winter Designer Series Paper paired beautifully with the Unbounded Love stamp set. And that pretty paper made this card quick to decorate.
Let’s take a look at another square Flip Flap Window Card!
This square Flip Flap Window card features the pretty Designer Trees bundle! This bundle has been super popular and is temporarily out of stock – due back the week of October 7th. This time the closure is a die cut square from the Stylish Shapes dies – all the details are in the step-by-step tutorial.
I used the circle that came out of the window for the greeting – so fun to repurpose things! The garland on the tree on the card front and the Christmas ornaments on the inside tree are from the Festive Glimmer paper – love that sparkle! I used a bit of the Season of Green & Gold DSP on the inside of the card. And again, you can look back through the window to get a peek at the tree on the inside cover of the flip flap!
Another adorable square Flip Flap Window card!
Simply darling! I can’t decide which I like better, the chubby Santa star on the front or the gingerbread star cookie on the inside! What a cute Christmas card to make and send with the Sweetest Star bundle! The Take A Bow Designer Series Paper makes this such a bright, cheerful card – full of sweet wishes. In the tutorial I give you another option for a closure instead of the heart. Options are good – right?
The candy “buttons” on the gingerbread cookie are from the Loose Snowflake Embellishments – they are thin and lightweight enough to go on the inside of a card. Plus this cookie is calorie free – lol.
Beautiful Splendid Autumn Flip Flap Window card was the project packet that qualifiers received in the mail…
Customers who placed a product order of $50 in my Stampin’ Up! online store before tax and shipping in August received the packet in September to make this card along with me in the video tutorial. This rectangle version of the Flip Flap Window card features the Autumn Expression dies, the Splendid Autumn Designer Series Paper (now back in stock), and the Textured Metallic Specialty Paper. The pretty leaf serves as the closure for this gold version.
I also did a version with the copper – which is your favorite?
With the pretty frame die from the Autumn Expressions dies, this bundle is the perfect solution for decorating the front of the flip flap. It reminds me of a mansion that has a portrait hiding a hidden corridor!
But instead of a corridor, we have a window framing a beautiful greeting. The sentiment inside is from the Layering Leaves stamp set. And I once again used the Distressed Tile 3D Embossing Folder and the Rectangle Deckle Dies.

What inspired me to make the Flip Flap Window card fun fold design?
So you may be wondering, what inspired me to create this fun fold? Well, I recently made a scrapbook page with the new Autumn To Remember Scrapbooking Workshop Kit and I added a 3″ x 3″ Flip Flap to the page. So how does a Flip Flap work? You create your page with a 3″ x 3″ photo (or whatever size your Flip Flap is), slide the completed page into the page protector, and then add two MORE photos to the front and back of your Flip Flap pocket. Then you remove the adhesive backing and adhere the Flip Flap to the page protector on top of the 3″ x 3″ photo on your page.
Now you have more photos added to your page without it looking cluttered! So I wanted to try this idea with a card format but decided to add a window behind the flip flap. Instead of adding extra photos, it allows you to add extra decoration and elements to your card!
