Giving Thanks with Word Wishes

Thanksgiving Word Wishes Seasonal Layers - 3 (2)

It is almost November – time to start thinking about Thanksgiving cards! I'm excited to share this project with you and I have some tips on how to sharpen dull dies too!

The Designer Paper that I used for this card is actually from a Halloween paper – Monster Bash. A couple of the patterns in the pack are not Halloween specific and perfect for fall / Thanksgiving cards! The word "Thanksgiving" is from the Word Wishes Dies. In addition to the word Thanksgiving, this set of dies includes these words: St. Patrick's, Christmas, Father's, Mother's, Valentine's, Halloween, New Year's, Easter, Happy, Merry, and Day. The word "wishes" is from the coordinating A Wish For Everything stamp set. When you purchase the two items together as a bundle, you get a 10% discount! The beautiful leaf is from the Colorful Seasons stamp set and the matching Seasonal Layers dies.

For the inside of the card I added a small strip of the designer paper, the inside Thanksgiving sentiment from A Wish For Everything, and another leaf image from the Colorful Seasons stamp set.

I used the Holiday Basic Rhinestones for the dots for the "i's" – the Holiday Rhinestones come with the following colors: Cherry Cobbler, Coastal Cabana, Night of Navy, Pumpkin Pie, and Shaded Spruce. Because the rhinestones are transparent, the colors actually go with a wide range of additional colors. The rhinestones on this project are technically Pumpkin Pie but they also match the Crushed Curry perfectly.

HOW TO SHARPEN A DULL DIE: I've had this detailed leaf die from the Seasonal Layers dies for a long time and have used it a lot. When we made this card at my Breakfast Club events last weekend we had difficulty getting the die to cut well. We had to send it through multiple times to get a good cut – time to sharpen it! I took a piece of aluminum foil, folded it in half, and then in half again. This gave me 4 layers of aluminum foil.

Then I sent it through the die cut machine. This gives you a really cool foil leaf, but more importantly, it sharpens the die. After cutting it with foil I wadded up a piece of wax paper and rubbed it all over the cutting edge of the die, this helps the paper release from the die so you don't have to poke out all the leftover pieces. I then sent the die through the machine with my cardstock and it cut beautifully in just one pass through!

Amelia with the whippets - 1

I just love this time of year! this past weekend my niece Amelia and I took a lovely fall hike in downtown Minneapolis along the West River Parkway. It was chilly but as you can see in this photo, Amelia and the dogs were well bundled (except Mama Bella – she is not a fan of her coat unless the temperature is below zero). It was so pretty out and the dogs got a nice long 5 mile walk!
