A magical, floating pop up card! This unique fun fold card has so many design possibilities and it is easy to make!!
I design a unique fun fold card every month for my Crafternoon virtual class and then share multiple designs of that fun fold. For this month’s virtual class the featured fun fold is the Floating Vertical Bandstand Pop Up Card. In this blog post I have 5 different designs of Floating Vertical Bandstand Pop Up Cards, a video tutorial, and a purchasable PDF tutorial with step-by-step photos and instructions on how to make all the versions. Below are pictures of all the different versions – on some designs I show alternate versions with different patterns from the same pack of Designer Series Paper. That way you can get the MOST out of your packs of pretty patterned papers! Of course the card flattens to fit in a standard A2 envelope. Hearts of Elegance Floating Vertical Bandstand Pop Up Card
This beautiful card featuring the Hearts of Elegance bundle and the Marbled Elegance Designer Series Paper was the project packet for the December Crafternoon. Customers who placed a product order of $50 in my Stampin’ Up! online store before tax and shipping in November received a packet in December with supplies to make this card along with me in the video tutorial.
The floating element is created with a window sheet that spans the two pop out bands. When you attach the main focal point for the card it appears to float! All the details are in the Floating Vertical Bandstand Pop Up Card step-by-step tutorial! This beautiful Marbled Elegance paper has gold swirly elements on one side, and a more subdued pattern on the backside. Either side looks great – just pick your favorite! The card pictured below is the “flip side” of the paper shown above. Or you can mix and match by putting the gold marbled paper on the card base and then flip the paper to the other side for the pop out bands. So many options.
For this style of card you put the “inside” greeting on the back of the card and sign it. Because this card is perfect for Valentine’s Day, anniversaries, weddings, or just to send some love, there are lots off different greeting options. Of course, the card easily flattens to fit in the envelope. Finished size for the Floating Vertical Bandstand Pop Up Card is 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ and it fits in a standard A2 Envelope.
When cutting the packets for this project I actually used 5 different patterns from the Marbled Elegance Designer Series Paper – and they all worked out great! Each pattern makes a unique and special card. A huge thank you to Louise at Iced Images! She inspired this fun fold card idea with her Framed Half Hexagonal Box Cards. These lovely cards were 6″ x 6″, 8″ x 8″, and 5″ x 7″. With much trial and error, I converted the sizing to make a vertical 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ card and changed the construction a bit.
Beautiful Butterflies Floating Vertical Bandstand Pop Up Card
This version of the Floating Vertical Bandstand Pop Up card has a fluttering butterfly from the new Beautiful Butterflies bundle. The embossing folder is part of the bundle and comes with dies to cut out the butterflies – beautiful!! These products will be available for customers to purchase starting January 7th, 2025! This card was designed for my wonderful Stampfield Stars direct team members. I mailed them a packet and they made the card with me at our December virtual team meeting last Thursday. In the tutorial I have an option for you to stack the butterflies on top of each other to make a 3D butterfly, or you can attach them to the window section separately if you prefer the look of two butterflies.
The Floating Vertical Bandstand Pop Up cards have the greetings on the back of the card, with lots of room to write a personal message. The stamps are also from the Beautiful Butterflies bundle.
This card also looks great with many of the patterns in the Bloom Impressions pack. I used three different ones, which is your favorite?? This Bloom Impressions Designer Series Paper from the upcoming Sale-A-Bration event is going to be a very popular free item! So beautiful!
In the photo below you can see a top down view that really shows the construction of the card. I made all of the versions with the Thick Basic White cardstock as it held the shape formed by the pop out arms better then regular Basic White cardstock. I love the 3D effect created by the floating element!
Heart Shaped Floating Vertical Bandstand Pop Up Card – gorgeous!
Another Sale-A-Bration freebie coming on January 7th – and this one is gorgeous! This is the Heart Shaped bundle which includes a stamp set and matching dies – it will be free with a $120 purchase. For this pretty card I paired it with the Layered Florals 3D embossing folder – wow!
Have you noticed the differences in the designs we have looked at so far? The first was Designer Series Paper on both the inside portion and on the pop up arms. The second one was Designer Series Paper on the inside and embossed pieces on the pop up arms. And this version is all embossed pieces. I find the all embossed version to be very elegant which makes it perfect for an anniversary! The Happy Anniversary sentiment is from the Layers of Beauty stamp set. It is stamped in Mossy Meadow but looks almost black in the photo.
The leaves are die cut from Mossy Meadow cardstock and the flower has a gold Blooming Pearl in the center. So dainty and delicate! All the details for this pretty card are in the Floating Vertical Bandstand Pop Up Card step-by-step tutorial.
Cute! Terrific Toadstool Floating Vertical Bandstand Pop Up Card
Another sneak peek of new products coming in January! Of course, the sentiment is perfect for this pop up style card!!
In the photo below I got a reflection in the window sheet which helps you see what makes the greeting and mushroom “float”. The window sheet really is fairly invisible most of the time.
Such a bright and cheerful card to mail to that special someone.

Delightful Wishes Floating Vertical Bandstand Pop Up Card
This card just makes me happy – maybe because this card is like a little bit of sunshine! The stunning suite of products that I used is called Delightful Wishes. And yes, it will also be available to purchase on January 7th. I love how the word “wishing” just looks like it is floating in midair!
The big “Best Wishes” stamp on the back comes from another new stamp set, “With You In Mind”. I also added a strip of the floral Designer Series Paper on the back – a perfect way to use up those little scrap pieces of pretty paper.
The extra beautiful vellum flower at the top was die cut from the Floral & Gingham Specialty Vellum using the matching dies in the Delightful Wishes bundle. I have all the step by step details for how to make this pretty card in the Floating Vertical Bandstand Pop Up Card step-by-step tutorial.
