Cards that even hold a treat! Five versions of a new fun fold card in this post. I created the Book Jacket Fold for the Suestampfield Crafternoon Creative Escape in June. This fun fold has a flap that hides a secret message and the cards stand for display.
It’s time to learn a new fun fold project! The Book Jacket Fold is a easy to make – and can make cards with an option to add a treat. The card can stand for display, and on the inside the front of the “book jacket” is visible. When the card is opened, the interior column forms what looks like the spine of a book. Then the book jacket (or dust jacket) panel can be folded out to reveal a “secret” inside message! This style of fun fold card can be created with many different stamps, dies, and papers – so many options!
When the Book Jacket Fold card is closed it folds flat, is a finished size of 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″, and easily fits into a standard card envelope. I made five versions of this fun card to share with you today – and on of the versions is an entire set of 12 Christmas cards! I hope these cards inspire your creativity.
Let’s take a closer look the construction of the Book Jacket Fold.
In the photo above you can see how the Book Jacket Fold card resembles a “book” when it is opened. The book spine on the left, and the card front resembles a book cover. In this photo the book jacket flap is unfolded to show the secret message inside. At the bottom of this post there is a step by step video on how to assemble this style of fun fold card. I also have an option to purchase a step-by-step tutorial for the basics of this fun fold design and directions on how to make ALL of the projects shown in this blog post.
The first card was the make and take for this month’s virtual Crafternoon class and features the Gorgeously Made bundle and the Masterfully Made Designer Series Paper. Absolutely gorgeous! The new Exposed Brick embossing folder is the perfect background and the Adhesive Backed Sequin Trio adds the bling. The sentiments are from the Lasting Joy stamp set – such a beautiful font in this set! The colors and layout of this card were inspired by a swap card that I received from demonstrator Alanna Wharf.
Customers who placed a $50 order (before tax and shipping) in May, received the packet to make this Book Jacket Fold card in June. You can join me for next month’s Crafternoon to learn another unique, new fun fold if you place a qualifying order this month!
Ready to see another version of the Book Jacket Fold? I bet you figured out where the treat will go!
Have you created with the adorable So Refreshing bundle yet? It makes the cutest cards!! This one can be a card AND a treat holder – or just a card, your choice! I slid a package of Starburst Fruit Chews in the column portion of the card to make it a treat holder.
The Glorious Gingham makes the perfect summer tablecloth – so cheerful! I also used the Delightful Doily Hybrid embossing folder to add texture. The tiny strawberry dies from the So Refreshing dies are adorable! In the PDF tutorial I walk you through, step by step how to make this card.
The Handmade Hugs stamp set and the Handmade Tag punch add a bright and cheerful greeting inside, in Blueberry Bushel ink.
The Starburst fits all the way inside, but you do need to add a 6″ x 8″ Cellophane bag to keep it in place. Or skip the treat and just make the card! The “column” section of this month’s Crafternoon project was inspired by a card made by demonstrator Donna Gray from Australia. Donna’s card was quite different, but the “column” construction sparked my creativity to make the Book Jacket fold – thanks Donna!
So Cute! Little Monkey meets Beautiful Balloons!
I combined the Little Monkey bundle with the Beautiful Balloons bundle to make this darling card and/or treat holder inspired by the Curious George books (authors H.A. Rey & Margaret Rey, Houghton Mifflin 1941). I ordered the yummy Now and Later Banana flavored treats from Amazon – the link to order is in the PDF tutorial. These candies were a PERFECT fit – no sliding! You could fit two packages in completely, and you can add a third package if you want it to peek out the top.
What a perfect way to celebrate a birthday! This Little Monkey Book Jacket Fold card would also make an adorable baby shower gift, just change out the sentiment on the front. The step-by-step directions are all in the Book Jacket Fold Tutorial.
The Bright & Beautiful Designer Series Paper adds the perfect touch of cheer to this card – and the confetti label from the Beautiful Balloons dies is so fun! In this top down view of the Book Jacket fold with the candy inside, you can see how perfectly it fits into the book spine column.
Let’s do a Book Jacket Fold card for the guys – or anyone who likes to do a bit of relaxing fishing!
The Gone Fishing bundle and the Let’s Go Fishing Designer Series Paper make such adorable cards! The dies are amazing and it is so fun to create the little tackle pieces to go in the tackle box. I love this “Relax” sentiment from the In The Moment stamp set – it was perfect to go inside this card!
The Happy Birthday sentiment on the front of this Book Jacket Fold card is from Beautiful Balloons – the same greeting that I used on the Little Monkey card. But it looks so different in Night of Navy! Linen Thread serves as the fishing line and the label is from the Nested Essential dies.
When you cut the tackle box die cut in half it fits perfectly on the Book Jacket Fold flap! I die cut various tackle pieces using the Silver Foil Specialty Paper along with red and white cardstock.
