Swing & Sway cards! Say hello to cards that MOVE!

Eight gorgeous versions of fun freestanding cards with a moving piece on the front. I created the Swing & Sway Cards for the September Suestampfield Crafternoon Creative Escape.

Make amazing swing & sway cards to bring joy to your family and friends! These moving cards really show off your beautiful dies or stamped images! In this Autumn Leaves version, the beautiful leaf on the front of this card swings & sways when you move the card! You can see it swingin’ and swayin’ in the short video below!

In this blog post I have a video that walks you through how to assemble the Swing & Sway cards and gives basic measurements. I also have details about a detailed step by step PDF tutorial for all 8 cards.

Cards that “MOVE” are so much fun! There is a mechanism on the front of the Swing & Sway cards that causes the front image to swing back and forth. I used the Tailor Made Tags dies to create the swing mechanism. But in case you don’t have these dies, I also have several alternative methods for creating the swinging mechanism in the PDF tutorial.

This beautiful version of the Swing & Sway Cards was the make and take for this month’s Crafternoon virtual class. Autumn is the perfect time to send handmade cards to family and friends to let them know that you are thinking of them. The fun fold portion. of the card is an accordion fold that stands for display.

The Distressed Tile 3D embossing folder really does make any card a WOW! The maple leaf from the Autumn Leaves bundle was embossed with the wavy lines embossing folder from the Cheery Patterns pack of two embossing folders. Simply beautiful!

Inside the card are two smaller leaves. One is die cut from the new Tartan Foil Designer Series Paper and the other is die cut from Cherry Cobbler cardstock. I left the inside blank so that I could use the card for any event by adding an appropriate greeting inside.

In this overhead view, you can see how the Swing & Sway cards stand for display. The swing mechanism on the front of the card was created by demonstrator Connie Ingram – she shared it with me so that I could share it with you! Thank you Connie! I designed a fun fold card that can stand for display to show off the swinging piece.

When the card is closed it folds flat, with a finished size of 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″, and easily fits into a standard card envelope. At the bottom of this post there is a step by step video on how to assemble this style of fun fold card. I also have an option to purchase a step-by-step tutorial for the basics of this fun fold design and directions on how to make ALL of the projects shown in this blog post.

How about some cute Halloween fun that swings and sways?

Boo! One of my viewers suggested that a ghost would be the perfect on the Swing & Sway cards so I gave it a try. She was right! It’s SO cute! And the Them Bones Designer Series Paper is absolutely adorable when paired with the Tricks & Treats bundle!

The ghost and boo are die cut from the Glow-In-The-Dark Specialty Paper. This paper has been SO popular that Stampin’ Up! is having difficulty keeping it in stock. The stock received last week has been depleted. We have more coming on November 6th. Of course, the tag that the Boo is attached to is from the Tailor Made Tags Dies which is the same die set I used to make the swing mechanism.

A simple stamped message inside is all that is needed to finish this adorable card! The colors for this card were inspired by a swap card that I received from demonstrator Kay Cogbill. Thank you Kay!

Ready for some more spooky fun?

Here you go! The Bag of Bones bundle and the Them Bones Designer Series Paper are up to the job! This set it so fun to create with!

Ribbons are a fun way to decorate the Swing & Sway cards. This ribbon is the same one that I used on the card above, the Black & Very Vanilla Large Check but for this version I colored it with the Dark Pumpkin Pie Stampin’ Blend.

I love all the extra little dies in the Bag of Bones bundle – so many choices to decorate the skeleton! And once again the Tailor Made Tags Dies makes the perfect label. In the PDF tutorial I walk you through, step by step how to make this card.

So many options with the Swing & Sway Cards! This one is one of my favorites!

Can you see why it is my favorite? It is because this card is just gorgeous! Can you see the sparkle of the Night of Navy Shimmer Paper as the circle behind the stars??

The Stars At Night Hybrid Bundle (which includes the stamp set, the dies, and the embossing folder) is now back in stock as is the O Holy Night Designer Series Paper that I used on this card. I cut and embossed the stars from the Distressed Gold Specialty Paper – which is out of stock but due back in the week of October 9th.

The swing & sway cards are pretty fun to watch – I could swing them back and forth all day!

The Swing & Sway cards can support a variety of different swinging shapes – with this Sparkling Snowflakes version I kept it super simple.

The panel that swings is a simple rectangle for this pretty Swing & Sway card and uses the Sparkling Snowflakes bundle. The bundle comes with the stamp set and the snowflake tag topper punch – so fun!

The embossing folder is called Snowflake Sky 3D and the Snowflake Magic Specialty Designer Series Paper. They are gorgeous together! This Snowflake Magic Specialty paper has been intensely popular and is currently out of stock. It is expected back in stock the week of October 9th.

Once you start making Swing & Sway cards, it’s hard to stop! These lovely Handcrafted Elements swing & sway cards are in two different color options.

Wow! The A Walk In The Forest Designer Series Paper is gorgeous! And it is easy to miss this lovely paper in the catalog – it is on page 5, way over on the right. This paper is a fundraiser for the Toys for Tots organization. Stampin’ Up! will donate $3.00 for each pack sold. For these cards (I did them in two colors, Pretty Peacock and Garden Green) I paired this pretty paper with the ornament die from the Handcrafted Elements die set. These dies are also easy to miss, they are on page 21 of the Mini Catalog and are not part of a bundle so they get overlooked. So pretty!

These cards were the make & take for my Stampfield Stars Divas, my direct demonstrators, for our quarterly event in September. The event is held both virtually and in person and we had a lot of fun!

The sentiments on both cards are from the Merriest Trees bundle. All the instructions are in the tutorial! Do you prefer this Garden Green version or the Pretty Peacock version up above?

Even more Swing & Sway cards!

I was having so much fun with the Handcrafted Elements dies, that I could not stop! This version is made with the gorgeous Snowflake Magic Specialty Designer Series Paper (expected back in stock the week of October 9th).

The greetings are from the gorgeous Night Divine stamp set. The Night Divine dies are now back in stock, so the Night Divine Bundle is available again!

Swing & Sway cards are perfect for birthdays too!

The secret ingredient to these Swing & Sway cards is the mechanism made with the circle tag reinforcer die in the Tailor Made Tags dies. This version of the Swing & Sway uses the Tailor Made Tags dies for the part that swings too!

The Garden Walk Designer Series Paper and the Modern Garden bundle make perfect birthday cards! The inside sentiment is from the So Sincere stamp set. A ribbon and a few gems add the finishing touch.
